At LA Castle Brokers Group, we find the right ACA plan for you — with government subsidies most people don't know exist. We compare every option available in your state so you pay as little as possible for the best coverage.
The Affordable Care Act has mechanisms that can drastically reduce what you pay — but only if someone explains them to you correctly. Here is the information that matters.
The Premium Tax Credit (PTC) is a federal subsidy that, if you qualify, can significantly lower what you pay each month for health coverage through the Marketplace.
The amount of help available depends on factors like your household income, family size, and other eligibility requirements.
For some families, this subsidy can mean meaningful savings — and in some cases, plans with very low monthly premiums. Your final cost will depend on your eligibility, location, and the plan you choose.
Many people don't realize they may qualify for this help. Checking your eligibility can help you see what options are available for your family.
Open Enrollment runs from November to January — but there are dozens of events that open a 60-day window to enroll at any time of the year:
• Birth or adoption of a child
• Marriage or divorce
• Loss of employer coverage
• Moving between counties or states
• A significant change in income
If something changed in your life this year, you may qualify to enroll right now.
This is one of the most important and least known points: children born in the United States may qualify for ACA coverage even if their parents have an ITIN or aren't citizens.
This can also apply to permanent residents, work or student visa holders, and in many cases asylum applicants with certain classifications. Our team knows exactly how to structure coverage so every member of your family is protected.
Every ACA plan is required to cover prescription drugs through a tier system (Tier 1–4):
• Tier 1 (generics): $0–$10 per prescription
• Tier 2 (preferred brand): $20–$50
• Tier 3–4 (specialty): partial coverage
Diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, thyroid conditions — most chronic medications fall into Tier 1 or 2. With the right plan, your prescription costs can be nearly zero.

Many families in Houston discover, once they review their situation with us, that they may qualify for a subsidy that significantly lowers their monthly premium. Every case is different — that's why we do the evaluation with you, without assumptions.
ACA organizes plans into four metal tiers. Each one balances what you pay monthly against what you pay when you use your insurance. The key is choosing the right tier for your situation.
Low Premium — High Deductible
The Bronze plan covers approximately 60% of medical costs; you cover the remaining 40% when you use services. Premiums are the lowest of all tiers, but the deductible is typically $4,000–$7,000 a year.
Ideal for young, healthy people who rarely visit the doctor and want protection against catastrophic emergencies without paying much each month.
The tier where the best subsidies are concentrated
Silver is the only tier that may qualify for Cost-Sharing Reductions (CSR) — an additional benefit that lowers your deductible, copay, and maximum out-of-pocket cost if your income falls between 100% and 250% of the federal poverty level.
It covers around 70% of medical costs. With subsidies, many families pay $0–$80/month and get coverage comparable to a Gold plan. It's the smartest option for most Hispanic families.
High Premium — Low Deductible
Gold covers 80% of medical costs. You pay a higher monthly premium, but when you use your insurance, out-of-pocket costs are lower and more predictable. Deductibles are typically $500–$1,500.
If your family visits the doctor frequently, takes multiple medications, or has regular specialist appointments, Gold can be more cost-effective long-term than Silver or Bronze.
Maximum Coverage — Minimum Cost When Used
ⓘ Not available in every state
Platinum covers 90% of medical costs. It's the highest coverage tier available in the ACA Marketplace. Premiums are the highest, but the deductible can be $0 and copays are minimal.
If you have serious medical conditions, need scheduled surgeries, or your family uses the healthcare system intensively, Platinum offers the greatest financial peace of mind.
More people than you'd imagine have access to health coverage through the federal Marketplace. Here are the groups that typically may qualify:
U.S. citizens and their immediate family members
Permanent residents (Green Card holders) in any state
Work visa holders (H-1B, L-1, TN, etc.) and their dependents
Mixed-status families: children born in the U.S. even if their parents have an ITIN
Independent workers, freelancers, and business owners without group coverage
Employees without employer coverage, or whose employer charges more than 9.12% of their salary
Income between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL) for maximum subsidies
People who recently lost coverage for any reason (Special Enrollment Period)
Subsidies are calculated based on the percentage of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). This is a general guide for 2025:
Enrolling directly on HealthCare.gov without guidance is like going to court without a lawyer. You can do it, but you'll probably leave money on the table — or end up with the wrong plan.
We don't work for a single insurance company. At LA Castle Brokers Group, we have access to every ACA plan available in your Marketplace — Blue Cross, Ambetter, Oscar, Molina, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and more. We review the provider network, drug formulary, copays, and deductible to find the plan that truly fits your doctors, your medications, and your budget. Not the first plan that pops up. The best one.
Licensed ACA agents are compensated directly by insurance companies through a model regulated by the federal government. That means your plan's price is exactly the same whether you enroll on your own or through us. The difference is that with us, you have an expert in your corner who maximizes your estimated subsidy, avoids application errors, and advocates for you with the insurance company.
The real work starts after enrollment. When you have a denied claim, when your family situation changes, when you need to add a dependent, when annual renewal comes around — we're there. At LA Castle Brokers Group, we're not an online form. We're your trusted agent, with a real phone number, available in English and Spanish, ready when you need us.
